Healthy Start To The Day
Am I healthy?…….. No 😆
However, I am trying and that counts for something in my eyes because for a long time I just didn’t care but my husband and I are at a point where we need to work on being healthy.
I could go on and on one all the things we are trying to change but I have found that starting simple is the best way to actually staying consistent. Too many changes all at once can overwhelm some people and stop progress before it ever starts.
I have found that the way I feel in the morning can determine the direction my day goes, emotionally and physically. If I’m a mess and don’t follow some kind for routine I feel like the rest of my day just follows suit. Everyone is different though because I just don’t understand how my husband can get up and out the door in only 15 minutes to go to work. How sir… How?
I currently work part time so there are two days a week that my routine is a little different but I still try to keep it really close to my regular routine.
Here are a few things I have found that have changed my mornings to give me a healthier start to my day
Hydrate
I wake up and take sips of water through out the night but it’s definitely not enough to keep my body hydrated through the night. Many people say it can jump-start your metabolism and can also help to boost cognitive function, improve alertness, and aid digestion by helping your system flush out toxins.
I try to drink at least 16 ounces of water before I start with coffee, coffee is life though so…

No Social Media
This one was really hard for me to not automatically go onto social media when I’m done with making coffee and packing my husbands lunch. My husband and I have talked about how interesting it is that people of our generations, him gen x and me ‘elder’ millennial, went from no social media to not being able to live without it. We both remember when dial up internet was first available in family homes. 😂
Social media can be very negative. Hate videos, misinformation, and people trying to get you on their side of something that doesn’t even matter. It’s also why I now avoid the news… but I have noticed that not going on social media first thing in the morning helps reduce anxiety about the negative things happening in the world.

Eat A Healthy Breakfast
I’m not usually hungry first thing in the morning so I tend to not think about it but then three or four hours later I’m so hungry that I just eat whatever looks good. That is usually not anything that can be considered healthy in any way shape or form… usually pot stickers with teriyaki sauce… delicious but bad bad bad for the first meal of the day.
Part of becoming healthy is food, some would say that 90% of becoming healthy is the food. Let me tell you, after eating bad for 40 years it has been a little hard to change but I’m trying and trying and trying… After a little bit of research.. well a few google searches and chatGPT chats… I am trying the Mediterranean diet.
My go to breakfast, Greek yogurt and granola with maybe some berries.

Make A Plan
To be honest, I don’t do this everyday because sometimes I just don’t want to bother with making a plan for the day. I know what I need to do and I do it. However, some days I am scattered and I need to organize by thoughts and plans for the day. On days that I am feeling unorganized and overwhelmed with everything I need to do for the day a plan is needed. Making a plan when I’m feeling overwhelmed can give me a moment to slow down and take a breath.
This doesn’t always apply to by day to day life but around the holidays…. life saver!

Get Moving
For me this looks different every day. On days I work I am on my feet for 12 hours in the healthcare field, so I 100% count that as my movement for the day. On days I don’t work I try to exercise with my husband, honestly it can sometimes be a battle to motivate myself to go to the gym.
Exercise isn’t the only way I get moving though. Housework in my opinion also counts as get moving for me because if I don’t do the housework I’m supposed to then I just don’t do it. Dishes, vacuuming, laundry, sweeping, moping, and all the other tasks a housewife does.
